Man, loved the tracks again as usual! The Diablo one was marvy, and the Addams Family Values track sounded like the SNES' take on Relax by Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you're under the weather again. If the "Lost Episode" thing is too much work, you could always attach your unused Diadtribes as show notes (I know how you feel about "Lost"). Either way, I'm sure there is some good info contained therein. It would be a shame not to get to hear it. It would be like missing a werewolf's bar mitzvah. Or a vampire's briss at the hands of a mummy mohel.
Hey hey ND!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the tracks. The Diablo song is one of my all time favorite pieces of VGM. I loved the Diablo franchise (although I haven't played 3 yet), and I especially love the music.
I will have to revisit the Blizzard track and listen for the Relax influence. I'm intrigued.
You might be on to something re: attaching the notes as... well, notes.
At least the mummy has bandages at the ready in case anything goes wrong.
Okay, so I got a little confused toward the end of the episode because I couldn’t tell what was a track break and what was a moment of silence in a song.
ReplyDeleteI think I meant the Nosteratu track was like Relax. It was the one that had the Black Magic M-66 anime bass guitar doing the four-on-the-floor rhythm and the 80’s electro-tom rolls. Blizzard, if I’m correct, was muted and had the wind sound looped. Correct? Yeah, that’s not FGTH.
Interesting that you and VGMJB both played Ceremony on Halloween week. I mentioned it there, but there’s a freaky gamalan(esque) tune on for Pulseman on the MD. Well, there are two, but only one of them was freaky enough to make me jump at work. Consider:

Yeah, a mohel is not a job where the phrase “a cut above” is a complement. Am I making an incisive argument? Kind of makes one circumspect.
Ah, the difficulties of the mixtape format. Yes, blizzard had the roaring wind in the background. In that case I will adjust my listening accordingly.
DeleteHad I recorded the full episode, I had planned to talk about the VGMJB overlap, in fact. I will take a listen to the Pulseman track in question. I can't imagine a gamalan on the MD... I have heard the OST before, although I don't think the full one. I find it a little too... harsh, maybe? Industrial? Something more jagged than my taste. But spookiness sometimes calls for jaggedness. The Pulseman track you linked to has almost like a Nine Inch Nails level of grit. But only in those short, unnerving bursts. Freaky indeed.
You sure get right to the point, chop chop. And all this religious talk can be a prick-ly subject, but I like the cut of your jib.
Every time I dive back to older episodes, I cross this "Werewolf Bar Mitzvah" title and really want to listen to this episode because of the title. Well, I'm finally here. There's less talking than I expected since you were sick, but the tracklist is very, very good.
ReplyDeleteI was already familiar with the Ceremony track from Secret of Mana. Everytime I hear that track, I have to double check that it is not the Tetsuo track from the anime movie Akira. With the spooky take on Gamelan gongs, I always get these two pieces confused.

I am definitely familiar with Akira, but not overly-so the soundtrack. I immediately hear the similarities you are talking about.
DeleteFor the record, Werewolf Bar Mitzvah is a reference to a joke from the TV show 30 Rock. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gCj62KHG0g)
I still have about a half-an-episode worth of notes for this show. Dang detours.
