  1. Great tracks, and great conversation! That Mario Golf track totally reminds me of a Sega Racing Track or a Sonic Adventure track, but I can’t put my finger on it. Perhaps from Sega Rally: https://m.youtube.com/watch?list=PLRtaAHG_k8HAGFmns9WruFpFW23dYb0JF&params=OAFIAVgC&v=vny8e6jyC_Q&mode=NORMAL

    2. I like this Sega Racing song! Takenobu doing his true sincerity thang.

I think I can see the similarities. The Golf track has a sorta late 90s dance-y vibe to it, I think.

    Actually, it’s all of them.

    1. Dang, this is a great soundtrack.

Maybe I need to do a disc-based racing game focus episode? Saturn, Early PS1, even Dreamcast and Xbox had some good ones.

      Hmmmmm

    2. Um YES PLEASE. From Wipeout, to the Sega Racers, to Rage Racer(which ties Sega Rally for my favorite racer of all time, and trumps it in terms of feeeeels), to Sonic R, to Scorcher.....heck, even just one system could provide you with more than enough tracks. I swear, the Xbox and PS2 had a hundred racing games each. And I know it’s probably off-limits, but Gran Tourismo 3’s remix of Lenny Kravitz’s “Are You Gonna Go My Way”(with accompanying video) is one of my all-time favorite passive gaming experiences, and the reason I bought a PS2(in spite of having sworn off games after the Dreamcast died). Well, that’s kind of a lie. I also bought the PS2 to play Rage Racer and Metal Gear Solid, both of which I missed out on originally because of my misguided Sega fanboyism.

    3. You know what is misguided? Your insertion of the word "misguided"!

I had a brief stint as a Nintendo heretic during the Dreamcast era. If they had kept on making systems, who knows what I would have done.

  3. Hey since my son is now in Ann Arbor at CS Motts I decided to visit Pinball Pete's. That's a big arcade you guys had access to. I'm pleased to announce that Quizzes and Dragons, err I mean Quizmasters, is still there.

    1. Hey Suprcrackers!

It's a pretty cool place, right? I'm very relieved to hear Quizmasters is still there, but the question remains... did you play it? And if so, did you enter your initials?

    2. What was your and Alan's high score? Now you do have the advantage of it being your home turf and memorizing the answers, but I do have the useless skill upgrade of early 90's sports knowledge. We will just have to see how the match up turns out.

    3. Well, I made it there again tonight. It is now set a $.50 a game which allowed me on my $3.00 to get to the boss of the third stage. I think my score was around 200,000. Not that it will help me much because as you said the scores get reset every day.

    4. I can't remember what my high score was. Usually Alan buzzes in first, so he always had the higher score. But at least you can live on in infamy for a short while.

  4. I was with my wife so a little back story is in order. Remember, back in the day where it was not so cool to wear your gaming credentials on your sleeve? Well, I'm squarely from that generation. I had to stay in the closet so to speak in order not to scare away the head cheerleader because I'm a cool guy not some nerd who likes videogames, right?

So here I am 16 years later still very comfortable staying in my don't as don't tell cocoon. Some things never change I guess? Getting my wife in there with me was a challenge in itself. I reluctantly got her to play some pinball. I was not going to push my luck with Quizzes and Dragons. Maybe next time?

  5. I might pull a cartoonish diversion. Point in the opposite direction, "is that a farmers market?" by the time she turned her head back there would just be a puff of smoke left behind.
