  1. No worries! It was still a Wednesday release, plus you gave me a chance to listen to the new episodes of LMH and VGMPire(after a loooong hiatus).

Great episode, and I can't wait for the sequel. For a guy that wasn't especially eager to do themed episodes, you come up with quite a lot of unique topics. For next time, don't forget the Banner Saga games, or Jotun, or (arguably) Stormlord.

I loved the information about Conan's origin. Creating a mythical age before civilization has its problems, but all in all, it was a pretty clever idea. Incidentally, I lived in Iceland for over a year, so that probably fed into my interest in the theme. While I was there, I got to experience traditional viking food. No wonder they were such cantankerous bastards.

My one anectdote I'll share: When I first got there, I had a tour wherein the guide took us to a large statue of Leif Erikson in Reykjavik. The guide said with great pleasure, "Leif Erikson was clever enough to discover the Americas, and smart enough to leave them alone". Here's a pic of the statue: https://s3.amazonaws.com/gs-waymarking-images/b43059a0-4497-4bd1-8183-91104f58af49.jpg

    1. Hey hey, ND/UN!

I definitely have enough fodder for a future sequel. And actually, one of the inspirations for this episode was cut out completely because I realized it wasn’t really a Viking or Viking-related game. In fact, it will be its own themed episode down the line. I’ll get more into what I mean then…

And I did listen to the Banner Saga OST because I actually have that game on my phone! It is one of the few mobile games I own. I would say it falls into the more “mood-setting” category, though. I was going to put in a track anyway because I had actually plated the game, but I decided to hold off for now. Jotun I think I saw on the huge list of games, but I don’t think I listened to it before I filled out the show. I’ll have to check it next round. Same with Stormlord. I can finagle an “arguably” into a “fits real nice” without problem.

As for themed episodes – it isn’t that I prefer “free play” episodes, necessarily. It just turns out that (as I predicted) themed shows take a WHOLE LOT more work. If I had the type of show where I spoke extemporaneously about topics with another person, I might get away with it more often.

Typically for the themed shows I need to comb through soundtracks I am not already familiar with. On top of that, I generally do a fair bit of research on my little tangents, and it adds even more to the prep time. I actually think the themed shows can be more fun to work on, and offer the most potential for unearthed musical worm meat.

I’m not sure if I had any proper Viking food while in Scandinavia, but I did indulge in traditional local fare in both Sweden and Norway. Most surprising was that I really enjoyed the Swedish blood pudding. I love that statute quote. Very funny. Also, that’s so interesting that you lived there! I was in the Reykjavik airport for a few hours, but that’s the extent of my experience thus far. I’d like to visit for real someday.

    2. You should check out YouTube clips of Jotun. The animation is spectacular.

    3. It's pretty cool looking. It's like... cell shaded almost, but not.

Speaking of interesting graphical styles - have you seen the trailer for Cuphead? I don't know if the run 'n gun style of game is really my cup of tea (cuphead of tea), but visually it is completely unique!
